Digital secretary seeks change to universal obligation

French digital economy secretary Axelle Lemaire has accepted a report by senator Pierre Camani and deputy Fabrice Verdier on the future of the universal telecommunication service, reports Les Echos. It calls on the progressive elimination of the phone boxes while augmenting the mobile coverage throughout the territory. There are still around 100 villages not covered by mobile and operators are expected to be solicited financially to fill the gap. The government also seeks to make some offers more accessible.
