Disney+ introduces GroupWatch feature to some users in Canada

Sunday 13 September 2020 | 13:36 CET | News

Disney+ started offering a GroupWatch feature to some users in Canada, with more locations coming this fall, according to TheVerge.com. Disney confirmed it’s running a limited test of GroupWatch. The new feature allows end-users to stream any move or TV show in Disney+ and invite up to six friends to watch content together. The created group's members need to be Disney+ subscribers to use GroupWatch.

Competitors Hulu and Amazon Prime Video introduced similar features this year as these became very popular as a result of more people staying at home more during the pandemic. Launched at the end of May, Hulu's feature is available exclussively to web users subscribed to Hulu’s ad-free plan. A month after Hulu introduced its feature, Amazon launched its Watch Party function to allow up to 100 people to watch together and chat with each other about the programme over the Amazon platform.
