Dominican Republic to invest USD 60 mln in fiber network

The Dominican Republic government, via the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), plans to build a fiber-optic network to expand the population's access to broadband services, Diario Libre reports. The network will initially cover 3,000 square km, or 6.67 percent of the country's territory. Overall investments in the project, dubbed 'Red Nacional de Fibra Optica' ('National Fiber-optic Netwokr') are expected to reach DOP 2.67 billion (approximately USD 62 million). The government will contribute DOP 1.38 billion, while the World Bank is expected to invest the remaining DOP 1.29
