DRC court rules against operators' use of 2.1GHz for 3G

DRC mobile operators Vodacom, Airtel, Tigo (Oasis) and Africel have been ordered to stop offering 3G services over the 2100MHz frequency by the commercial court of Kinshasa, according to local press reports. The court ruled that only Congolese registered TV transmission firm Netherland British Company (NBC) is authorised to exploit this technology. NBC charged that telecom regulator ARPTC illegally allocated its 3G frequency to the mobile operators. The company's lawyers claim that NBC secured a 10-year licence in 2004 from the ministry of posts and telecommunications. The ARPTC sold four 3G
