DRC govt blames fraud for lack of connection to WACS

The Democratic Republic of Congo's minister of communications told the national assembly that a USD 3 million fraud is responsible for the country's fibre connection to the WACS undersea cable being at a standstill, according to local press reports. Kin-Kiey Mulumba said that someone called Kalala Martin, based on the driver's licence he used to walk into a branch of Banque Interantionale pour l'Afrique au Congo and withdrew USD 3 million. The man, thought to have acted on the orders of port services and transport company SCTP, was arrested, along with his godfather. The minister said that
