DRC introduces mobile payphone tax

The Democratic Republic of Congo has set a USD 200 annual tax for operators of mobile payphones in Kinshasa, Le Potentiel reports. The government wants to levy a USD 200 per phone tax under a 2007 law that allows the ministry of environment and public health to tax emissions of pollution but now also radiowaves that may adversely affect the psychiatric or physical health of people with radiosensitivity. The same tax would be applied to base stations, authorised mobile phone stores, messaging services, private mobile radio services and cybercafés. It is unclear whether the tax will be
