DRC moves ahead on connection to WACS

Kin-Kiey Mulumba, the Democratic Republic of Congo's communications minister, has met with the state operator SCPT to assess the progress on connecting the country to the international submarine cable WACS, La Prosperite reported. SCPT said work on the landing station at Muanda was progressing well, and equipment supplier Alcatel-Lucent was already in Kinshasa. The operator noted that the government must still pay its remaining contribution of USD 5.14 million to the WACS consortium for the connection to become active. SCPT also said it will start work within two weeks on building the fibre
