e-Geos awarded EUR 12 mln EU satellite contract

e-Geos, a joint venture between Italian satellite services provider Telespazio and the Italian Space Agency, has been awarded a EUR 12 million European Commission contract to provide satellite maps for emergency management. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service - Rapid Mapping contract corresponds to the period 2015-2019 and, according to Telespazio, the service provided is unique at a global level in the field of emergency management. The previous contract, corresponding to the period 2012-14, produced over 1,000 satellite maps of areas affected by a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis in 46 countries all over the world.

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service - Rapid Mapping service is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is operated by a consortium led by e-Geos and including the German subsidiary GAF, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), the Italian company Ithaca and the French partners Sirs and Sertit.
