Kenya CA reports rise in East Africa roaming

Kenyan mobile subscribers called 35.8 million minutes while roaming in Q1 2016, of which 30 million in the East African Community (EAC) countries, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA). Foreign subscriber roaming-in voice traffic registered a total of 27.3 million minutes during the period, with EAC countries accounting for 23.3 million minutes. According to the report, the pattern of high traffic within the EAC was also observed in SMS and data traffic, a trend attributed to the One Network Area (ONA) initiative that saw the capping of regional retail tariffs.
