EC and European Committee of Regions launch joint broadband platform

The European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) have announced the launch of a joint platform to help high-speed broadband reach all European regions, above all rural and sparsely populated areas. Topics of discussion will include policy and governance, technology, regulatory framework and financial opportunities, said the EC, adding that the inaugural meeting will also discuss the new 'WiFi4EU' initiative to install free Wi-Fi hotspots in public squares, parks, hospitals and other public spaces across the EU.
