EC approves UK National Broadband Scheme

The European Commission (EC) has approved the UK National Broadband Scheme for 2016-2020, concluding that it complies with EI state aid rules. EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said the decision endorsed UK plans to support the roll-out of high speed broadband infrastructure. The scheme will ensure roll-out of NGA broadband (30 Mps+) to as many UK homes and businesses as possible. As a result, the can fully fund the investment to roll-out NGA broadband in areas where no NGA infrastructure exists and where no private operator is willing to invest in such infrastructure without
