EC should probe Telefonica-Digital+ deal - CNMC

The European Commission should investigate Telefonica's possible acquisition of Spanish pay-TV platform Digital+ due to its Community-wide dimension and its implications for competition in Spain, according to the country's telecoms regulator CNMC. There has been no confirmation of Telefonica's purchase of Prisa's 56 percent stake in Digital+, but on 25 February Prisa gave fellow shareholders Telefonica and Italian broadcaster Mediaset, each of which own a 22 percent stake in Digital+, a 15-day term to decide whether to bid for Prisa's share. The term expires on 12 March and CNMC's president,
