EC to allocate EUR 42 mln in first 'WiFi4EU' city hotspot tender

The European Commission announced that over 13,000 municipalities applied for free Wi-Fi hotspots in the first WiFi4EU call that finally took place earlier this month after the first round was cancelled. The EC's Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) will now allocate a total of EUR 42 million to 2,800 municipalities, who will each receive vouchers of EUR 15,000 to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot in public spaces after the necessary admissibility and eligibility checks are made. Italy, Spain, German and France topped the ranking in terms of applications, with 3,202, 2,116, 1,824 and 1,451
