EchoStar loses contact with 20-year old satellite

Thursday 3 August 2017 | 10:39 CET | News
EchoStar has announced that its EchoStar III satellite experienced an anomaly of unknown origin during its move to a new orbital location last week. Communications with the satellite have since been interrupted and become intermittent, said EchoStar, adding that the satellite "is a fully depreciated, non-revenue generating asset." The company is now working in cooperation with the satellite manufacturer to re-establish a reliable link in order to recover and retire the spacecraft.
