Ecuador caps mobile phone imports

Monday 18 June 2012 | 08:30 CET | News
Ecuador's Foreign Trade Committee (Comex) has set a cap on mobile phone imports. Individual users will be able to enter the country with one mobile phone only, while companies will be allowed to import up to 2 million items or mobile phones worth up to USD 142.6 million per year, AFP reports. The figure represents a reduction of 33 percent compared to the value of mobile phones imported in Ecuador in 2011. Comex says the initiative aims to reduce the amount of hazardous waste in Ecuador.
