Ecuador frees up spectrum to cushion Covid-19 impact

Ecuador's telecommunications ministry (Mintel) has announced plans to temporarily free up mobile spectrum with a view to alleviating the impact of the Covid-19 impact on networks. In a statement, the ministry said a total of 8 decisions had been taken to improve internet access throughout the country, including the temporary allocation of spectrum to operators for 12 months to boost capacity and quality of service as a result of a 40 percent surge in traffic over the past 2 months.
