Ecuador launches USD 50 mln Galapagos undersea cable project

Friday 29 May 2020 | 12:06 CET | News
A new project has been launched to build an undersea cable connecting mainland Ecuador with the Galapagos Islands archipelago, reports local daily El Universo, citing the country's president Lenin Moreno. The islands have faced connectivity issues in the past due to their remote location some 1,000 km offshore but the new cable link between Galapagos and the port city of Manta on Ecuador's central coast will provide high-capacity national and international fixed and mobile telephony services including fibre-optic broadband plus 4G and 5G mobile access, said the report.
