Ecuador scraps tax on mobile and fixed plans

The Ecuadorian government has eliminated a 10-15 percent tax on fixed voice and mobile phone services after the country's new Economic Development Act entered into force on 01 December. The 10 percent tax on consumer plans and 15 percent on business plans has been applied since 2016, prompting concern about the high tax burden from the Inter-American Association of Telecommunications Companies (ASIET) and the GSMA.
