EIB could fund Enel's Italian fibre plan - report

The European Investment Bank (EIB) could be prepared to fund the Enel Open Fibre (EOF) venture of utility giant Enel, reports business daily Il Sole 24 Ore. According to the report, Enel executives have met with EIB vice president Dario Scannapieco to discuss EOF's EUR 4 billion plan to roll out a high-speed broadband network all over Italy. Enel is due to install 33 million smart meters over the next four years and is letting operators use the pipes for broadband purposes via its EOF wholesale-only venture. The EIB is already supporting the accelerated expansion of high-speed fixed broadband
