Eir to connect 300k rural addresses on behalf of Irish govt

Tuesday 4 April 2017 | 16:35 CET | News
Irish operator Eir said it agreed with the Irish government to connect 300,000 rural addresses that originally figured in the country's National Broadband Plan. As as result, the company said its fibre upgrade programme is expected to be complete by the end of 2018, two years ahead of its original deadline of 2020. It said an additional EUR 200 million investment will allow it to target 890 largely rural communities, erecting new pole and cable infrastructure along 23,000 kilometres of roads.
