Eircom brings 100 Mbps coverage target forward by a year

Eircom has brought forward its initial target of 1.4 million homes connected to 100 Mbps service by the end of 2016, to the end of 2015, compared to over 1.1 million now, Geoff Shakespeare, the operator's managing director for technology evolution and development told Silicon Republic. Over 1.1 million homes across the country are currently passed by 100 Mbps broadband. Eircom now plans to connect around 66 towns to 1 Gbps service. The company will be one of a number competing to take part in Ireland's national broadband plan to bring fibre to 600 homes and 100,000 businesses, or 32 percent
