Brazilian optical network operator Eletronet has launched a national and international IP transit service, available in the 155 POPs of the 18 states where it is present. The new product is part of an investment plan to expand service to providers and other operators.

The service is based on Eletronet's own national OPGW backbone, connected to traffic exchange points in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Campinas, Brasilia and Salvador. It also has international routes to London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, New York and Miami. To adapt the network core to IP technology, Eletronet worked with Juniper, Ciena and Padtec.

Eletronet is also inaugurating a new PIX in Fortaleza (CE), with initial capacity of 20G and possibility to expand in 10G and 100G ports.
