Entropic, Global Invacom partner on DTH fibre distribution

Friday 12 September 2014 | 10:22 CET | News
Entropic and Global Invacom Group announced a partnership to design a hybrid plus digital Channel Stacking Switch (dCSS) multi-switch solution based on Entropic's EN5520 second-generation dCSS integrated circuit, the EN5520. The new multi-switch solution is targeted for installations that use a fibre backbone for distribution of DTH broadcast video in multi-dwelling unit facilities. Receiving the multi GHz broadcast signal over fibre, the Entropic EN5520 can select up to 32 transponders and transmit across two coax outputs – which provides 32 user bands of viewing or recording capacity. This targets server/client architectures where the server set-top box (with multiple tuners and demodulators) receives the input signal over a single cable. The EN5520 provides an interface to Global Invacom's programmable Romeo & Juliet fiber chipsets. Global Invacom expects to have production units based on Entropic's EN5520 IC available in Q1 2015.
