EriTel, Motorola install GSM network

Eritrean mobile operator EriTel and Motorola have jointly installed a GSM wireless network in Eritrea, the first such network in the territory, according to Unstrung. Motorola's network infrastructure offers a proven, cost-efficient platform for operators wanting to market basic voice services to new customers. EriTel's network covers Asmara, the transport routes to Massawa and Assab, and to the territory's northern and southern region. EriTel aims to expand coverage to all of Eritrea by end-2004.
