Eri-Tel to introduce mobile service in rural areas

Eritrea Telecommunications will introduce mobile services to rural areas starting with the country's Southern Red Sea region next month. Eri-Tel manager Tesfaslasie Berhane said the state-owned mobile firm has installed 16 towers in the rural areas, and plans were underway to launch similar services in other regions. Tesfaslasie said that the necessary infrastructure has already been put in place by a Chinese engineering company which is undertaking the construction work.
