Espoo to use excess data centre heating from Sonera

Monday 24 October 2016 | 12:45 CET | News
Finnish operator Sonera announced an agreement with energy group Fortum to use excess heating from its planned data centre in the Espoo region to heat local homes and hot water. The data centre planned for completion at the end of 2017 will cover more than 30,000 m2 and house up to 200,000 servers. It has a planned capacity of 24 MW. Fortum said the excess heat generated should cover nearly 10 percent of the local district heating needed in Espoo, with a target of recuperating 80 percent of the wasted energy.
