Etelm supports deployment of Italian Covid-19 mobile testing lab

Etelm, a French manufacturer of mission-critical radio equipment, has confirmed its involvement in a project to deploy a satellite-enabled mobile laboratory to help the Piedmont regional government’s large-scale Covid-19 testing effort. The northern Italian region was one of the most severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and teamed up with the Centre for Applied Molecular Technologies of UCLouvain (Catholic University of Louvain), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Luxembourg Department of Defence as well as partners including Eonix, Nazka Maps, SES, GovSat and Etelm to activate the satellite-enabled mobile Biological Light Fieldable Laboratory for Emergencies, known as B-LiFE.

B-LiFE is a lightweight portable manpack with a secure 10 Mbps duplex connectivity put in place by SES and connected to the GovSat-1 satellite for health data processing, real-time data transmission and communication with remote experts. Etelm said it successfully deployed and tested its 4GLinked platform to support B-LiFE's laboratory operations, including PMR TETRA and LTE base stations. It added that the 4GLinked platform is designed to interconnect TETRA and LTE radio infrastructures into a single unified network for a smooth transition from narrowband to broadband communications.
