EU court strikes down exclusive football rights

A EU court has ruled that exclusive national licences to broadcast football matches are against EU competition law. The Court of Justice was asked its opinion over the relevance of EU law in two cases concerning broadcasts of the English Premier League. One was brought by the English Football Association against pubs that have imported cheaper Sky decoder cards from Greece to show the matches, and one case by a pub owner who imported such a decoder.
