EU, US working on joint open-source data tool

The European Commission and the US Department of Commerce have announced at the International Open Data Conference in Madrid that they're working on an open-source tool that will allow users on both sides of the Atlantic to more quickly access, analyse and visualise open data sets. The joint project will take the form of a new "seed" and open-source library, in the statistical programming language "R", that interfaces with US and EU economic databases, offering integrated access to key indicators on GDP, population, employment, disposable income – by industry and region – to support research
