Europe customer numbers sensitive to broadband rates - study

The number of fibre broadband subscribers rose to over 22 million in the fourth quarter of 2012 from 12.7 million in Q4 2009, according to a new report from Quantum-Web. The average residential fibre broadband tariff decreased to EUR 35 from 59 to EUR 35 in this period. Evidence suggests high customer sensitivity to fibre broadband prices in Europe, the study said. The study showed that a EUR 1 decline in prices caused an increase of over 400,000 new fibre subscribers in Europe since Q4 2009, a price elasticity of 1.85.
