European fixed broadband connections up 4% to 160 mln in Q2

The number of fixed broadband connections in EU28 countries passed the 160 million milestone at the end of the second quarter, up 4 percent year on year, according to a report from Quantum Web. The dominant technology by far was xDSL, which passed 104 million lines in Q2, accounting for 65 percent of total fixed broadband connections in the region. Cable modem connections rose to 31 million and a 19 percent market share, followed by FTTx, which grew 8 percent on a quarterly basis to reach 22 million lines.
