European linear OTT pay-TV subs up to 7.4 mln in Q3

The popularity of over-the-top (OTT) sports platforms such as Bein Sport Connect, Eleven Sports or Dazn helped boost the linear OTT pay-TV market in Europe to 7.4 million subscribers at the end of September 2017, up 13 percent compared to the previous quarter, according to Dataxis. Sports fans represented around 25 percent of the linear OTT base at the end of Q3 2017, with Germany leading the sport OTT market with a 35 percent share, followed by France (25%), the UK (15%), Spain (8%) and Italy (5%).
