European telecoms regulation 'obsolete' - Telefonica CEO

Europe is at risk of missing the boat if it does not urgently implement regulations adapted to the new reality of a telecommunications sector where OTT content is dominant, according to Telefonica CEO Cesar Alierta. Speaking at the Global Forum Spain event held in Bilbao, Alierta described Europe's current telecoms regulation as "obsolete" and called on European institutions to focus on the inequalities of a sector in which OTT players such as Facebook, Google and Yahoo are increasingly making their presence felt.
