European Union to support mobile network construction in Brandenburg with EUR 55 mln subsidy

Monday 2 December 2019 | 16:16 CET | News

The European Union is set to subsidise the construction of a mobile network in the German state of Brandenburg with EUR 55 million over the next three years, Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) reports.

The subsidies are part of the European Fund for Regional Development (Efre), said the Ministry for Economic Affairs of Brandenburg responding to an inquiry from Sebastian Walter, a representative of the party Die Linke in local parliament. The money will support 80 percent of the planned EUR 69 million investments for the construction of mobile sites of the three network operators DeutscheTelekom, Vodafone and Telefonica.

According to the ministry, the plan for the construction of the mobile network is currently being examined by the European Commission. After the EU aid is approved, the Investment Bank of the German state of Brandenburg will launch a tender process.
