Europol uncovers 'Islamic State' social media platform

Thursday 4 May 2017 | 09:45 CET | News
The so-called 'Islamic State' group is developing its own social media platform with a view to avoiding security crackdowns on its communications and propaganda, reports Reuters, citing Europol director Rob Wainwright. The platform was discovered during a 48-hour operation against internet extremism that involved officials from the US, Belgium, Greece, Poland, and Portugal. In total, over 2,000 extremist items hosted on 52 social media platforms were unearthed in the Europol-coordinated operation.
