EU's new Radio Equipment Directive comes into force

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has announced that the radio equipment directive (RED) finally came into force in Europe on 13 June, around two years after publication. The Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU was passed by the European Parliament and the European Council back in May 2014 with a view to harmonising existing single market rules for radio equipment, improving security of radio spectra and protecting health and safety. ETSI's harmonised European standards, developed in support of the directive, are the preferred means for manufacturers to comply with
