Euskaltel reports film producer to Spanish data watchdog

Thursday 23 May 2019 | 14:56 CET | News
Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has reported the film producer Venice PI to the country's data protection agency (AEPD) for illegal use of its customers' data. In its complaint to the AEPD, the operator said it was forced to disclose customer IP data by a Bilbao court for sharing the 2017 film "Once Upon a Time in Venice" via a P2P system. However, the producer subsequently used the data to send emails to the Euskaltel customers in question asking for EUR 150 in payment for illegally sharing the movie.
