Extra remedies get authority's ok for Canal to buy channels

France's Competition Authority has given broadcaster Canal Plus and parent group Vivendi authorisation for the second time to purchase digital channels D8 and D17, Direct Productions, Direct Digital and Bollore Intermedia. The transaction was blocked in December 2013 because the pay TV operator risked having too much influence on the market for unencrypted broadcasts of recent French movies. as it finances films and negotiates transmission rights at the same time. The parties have made a commitment to not pre-buy film rights and negotiate free-to-air rights for over 20 first releases each
