Facebook dominates social and messaging apps in figures and behaviour - study

In the Netherlands, Facebook controls almost the entire playing field of apps for messaging and social networks, and is a very dominant player, according to Telecompaper's latest Dutch Apps Market report. WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger have an installed base of 44-94 percent and are far ahead of alternatives such as iMessage, Skype, Telegram, Signal and Snapchat; the installed base of alternatives does not go beyond 25 percent. Looking at market developments over the past few years, various examples show that Facebook is taking measures to defend its dominant position.
