FCC grants broadband funding to 516 rural operators, targets over 1 mln premises

Friday 3 May 2019 | 15:14 CET | News
The FCC has granted broadband subsidies to 516 rural operators in 46 states through a predictable cost model designed to bring faster broadband to over 1 million homes and businesses. Each operator has been given 45 days to decide whether to accept the offer based on the ACAM (alternative Connect America) cost model or to remain on the traditional high-cost Universal Service programme. Rate-of-return carriers receive around USD 2.4 billion each year of the FCC's USD 4.794 billion in universal service support for rural broadband.
