FCC hands out sharp fines for spoofed robocalls

Thursday 27 September 2018 | 09:55 CET | News
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has handed out new fines for robocalling. A fine of over USD 82 million was imposed for illegal caller ID spoofing. Philip Roesel and his companies made over 21 million robocalls to market health insurance. The fine was proposed this summer but Roesel claimed the commission failed to prove intent to harm. The FCC disagreed and upheld the fine, one of its highest for robocalls. The commission issued another, higher, fine in May of USD 120 million for malicious spoofing.
