FCC moves to halt scam robocalls by 2019

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched a campaign to urge the phone industry to adopt a call authentication system with a view to halting caller ID spoofing. In a statement, FCC chairman Ajit Pai said blocking illegal robocalls remained the top consumer priority at the commission, demanding that operators implement the technology no later than 2019. "Greater participation will ensure the system works for consumers, who expect real progress in combating malicious spoofing and scam robocalls," he said, adding that "if it does not appear that this system is on track to get up
