FCC prepares tougher regulation of ISPs - report

The US Federal Communications Commission is expected to announce tougher regulations for ISPs. Under present rules, ISPs are classified as an "information service", also known as Title 1 service, which means lighter regulations. Some members of Congress and other interest groups want the regulator to put ISPs under the same regulatory regime as telecom operators, known as Title 2. This follows the FCC losing a court case against Comcast over whether it could sanction the cable operator for managing its internet traffic.
