FCC proposes mandatory adoption of Stir/Shaken protection against spoofed robocalls

Monday 9 March 2020 | 09:53 CET | News
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Ajit Pai has proposed new rules around the implementation of caller ID authentication using the Stir/Shaken standards. The idea is to further extend protection against spoofed robocalls. The FCC plans to vote on the new rules during its Open Meeting on 31 March. These will require phone companies to adopt a Stir/Shaken by 30 June 2021, with extensions granted to smaller or rural providers. Up until now, the move had been voluntary.
