FCC set to approve AT&T's DirecTV takeover with conditions

An order recommending the approval of AT&T's acquisition of DirecTV has been circulated to the FCC commissioners, said chairman Tom Wheeler. The proposed order outlines a number of conditions that will increase competition in the broadband marketplace. If approved by the commissioners, 12.5 million customer locations will have access to a competitive fibre connection. The additional rollout is around ten times the size of AT&T's current FttP deployment and increases the national residential fibre build by over 40 percent. Yeah....heard this one multiple times and all they claim is so called "fiber" which is a method of "bait and switch" that this company is known for since their areas they claim are fiber most likely a form of dsl with limited reach. What the FCC/FTC doesn't know is their "fiber" footprint is that claimed number so the promise is toothless and will not help anyone. Att has yet to complete their terms in their bellsouth merger or their promise when they were sbc for the conditions of the telecommunications act of 1996 and the amendment to it.
