Friday 13 December 2019 | 11:40 CET | News
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated 988 as the country's new suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline. Calls made to the three-digit number will be directed to the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a national network of 163 crisis centres funded by the Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Lifeline was previously available by calling 1-800-273-TALK and through online chats.
