FCC updates children's TV programming rules

The Federal Communications Commission has voted 3-2 to update some of the rules set out in the 1990 Children's Television Act (CTA), above all the obligations on US TV stations to carry informational and educational programming for children. TV stations are now allowed to air up to 52 hours a year of educational specials and/or short-form programming for children, compared to 156 hours a year under the CTA.
