Fibre-optic services reach just 49% of Italians - study

Fibre-optic technology offering internet access at speeds over 30 Mbps was available to just 49 percent of the Italian population at the end of March, according to a report from EY published by Il Sole 24 Ore. The southern region of Campania currently leads the ranking of population coverage, with fibre-optic services reaching 74 percent of its inhabitants, followed by 65 percent in Lazio and 59 percent in Liguria, compared to just 20 percent in Abruzzo. The report also revealed that just 14 percent of Italian localities – some 1,110 – had FTTH or FTTC commercial offers available at the end
