Finance ministry to rethink mobile bill tax

Thursday 21 June 2012 | 04:52 CET | News
Bangladesh's finance minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, has promised a rethink of the proposed 2 percent tax on mobile phone bills. The assurance was given at a meeting with mobile operators, bdnews24.com reports. Muhith launched the tax proposal earlier this month as part of a presentation on the proposed 2012-13 budget in parliament. Mobile users already pay a 15 percent value added tax on mobile bills, while operators subsidise the government's Sim tax of BDT 600.
