The Taipei District Court convicted former HTC VP of product design Thomas Chien of stealing proprietary technology to sell to China and other charges, according to TaipeiTimes.com. Chien was sentenced to more than eight years in prison. The judges ruled that Chien contravened the Trade Secrets Act and Securities and Exchange Act, but found him not guilty of money laundering. The court order the confiscation of the money he reportedly made from the thefts estimated at about NTD 6.83 million (USD 221,279 at the current exchange rate). Chien can appeal the verdict.
